Miss Migraine: Ice pack, or, it’s that kind of day

Banner that says "The Adventures of Miss Migraine"

The Adventures of Miss Migraine is an ongoing column about my life with chronic migraine. A version of this post appeared first on September 27, 2012 on my blog of the same name.

Photo Friday is a fun challenge that chooses a theme each week. You then have to go out into the world and take a photo that matches the theme. A previous challenge was “texture.” I immediately thought of the texture on the ice packs I use to sooth the pounding in my head when I’m caught in the throws of a migraine that refuses to go away. Often, ice packs are the only things that give me any relief.

Coleman ice pack

“Ice Pack,” taken 9/27 with my Samsung Galaxy SIII.

I like the way this photo highlights the ice crystals that have formed on the textured edges and brand name of the plastic, and how some of the words in “Coleman” are covered in ice crystals, but some aren’t. It’s not a photographic masterpiece, but I’ve got a migraine, so it’s good enough.

P.S. I’m on Instagram now, in case you want to follow me there for more photos–mostly of books and my dog. At least I’m on brand, right?
